Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third film of horror of the Hatchet Series. It follows Victor Crowley's murderous rampage across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley and Brian Quinn is Deputy Winslow. Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.
Its practical special effects are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a number of makeup effects that are practical and sets that result in some truly terrifying scenes in the movie.
The cast gives a strong performance and Kane Hodder standing out as the most terrifying villain. The dialogue is so funny and cheeky that it could be like a classic 1980s horror film. There are also several hilarious moments that provide a sense of some humor in the midst of the terrifying action.
The problem is that the budget is extremely small (reportedly $1 million), most locations in the film are reused locations (click now to see vids) from previous films in series. For example the exact boathouse location was featured twice in the film. A lot of the locations feel like they've been reused from other films in this franchise. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the film appear familiar.
Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior installments in the series. It also offered lots of bloody thrills as well as some entertaining performances by its cast members.
